It's been a busy week and I haven't had a chance to make a blog post yet. Who knew that work could get in the way of blogging? It's nice to know that even though work and general business can stop me from writing about food, it definitely can't stop me from eating. Since last Wednesday I have had the opportunity to have great meal at Boqueria (again), The Little Owl (again, I just can't get enough of those pork chops) and Casa Mono last night (for the first time.) All these meals were fantastic and hopefully I will have a chance to write about them later, but for now I have a dinner tomorrow that I need to shop and prepare for.
A couple of notes about the dinner:
--For some reason (my friend Rob thinks its the warm weather and the new found abundance of things to do) it has been incredibly difficult to figure out who exactly is coming tomorrow. As a result I think I am no longer braising pork belly (too much time) and now have what seems to be a more manageable 12-16 people as opposed to the previous 20-25.
Actually it was just one note although it was sort of a compound note.
Here is a list of the shopping I need to do today and tomorrow:
Greenmarket today
Cilantro
Red Onions
Onions
Carrots
parsnips
2 dozen eggs
beets
potatoes
mutsu and winesap apples
chevre
turnips or radishes
baby carrots
wild strawberries
empire apples for crumb cake
Liquor store
Red wine for short ribs
Port wine
Champagne
Citarella
6-8 limes
Chicken stock
Celery
Balsamic vinegar
Plum tomatoes
1-2 heirloom tomatoes
Rosemary
Thyme
Cherries
Morels
Heavy cream
16 lamb chops
Short ribs
Greenmarket tomorrow
Bacon
Fish for ceviche
Flounder
Chives
Microgreens
Asparagus
Fiddleheads
I think I will try and make the short ribs today as well as the base for the ice cream and maybe even the granite. Everything else probably needs to be done tomorrow which might be a little difficult since as of now, I have no volunteer sous chefs to boss around. Wish me luck!
