Restaurant Week starts today and I’m getting set to eat at one of the seven restaurants that I have reservations for in the next two weeks. Followers of this blog know that I’m not completely sold on dining during Restaurant Week due to the prix fixe that may or may not be a deal (some places offer them anyway) and the fact that some of the more extravagant items (that need to be eaten) tend not to be on the restaurant week prix fixe. However, because restaurant week is an excuse for people to dine in droves, most places should be trying their best to draw in new customers.
Despite the fact that I’m somewhat conflicted (and would much rather just go to restaurants during non-restaurant week if I could afford to do it more frequently) I have a severe lack of things to do during lunch or dinner for the next two weeks and thus will be sampling several restaurant week menus.
Below is a schedule with a bit of my rational in making each choice
Today: DB Bistro Moderne for lunch. I picked this one off of a recommendation from a Dad’s friend. It’s also a place that I hear is pretty good (they have their famous foie gras burger) and would probably not go to if I didn’t have a reason for restaurant week.
Tomorrow: L’Impero for lunch. I’ve had lunch here once before and it was pretty amazing. I wanted to taste the best spaghetti and tomato sauce I’ve ever had again. Hopefully it makes the prix fixe.
Wednesday: The Bar Room at The Modern for dinner. I read their three star NY Times review and have been looking for a reason to try out the place. They also appear to on the higher end the restaurant week dinner spectrum.
Thursday and Friday: The Belly takes a rest.
Monday: Gotham Bar & Grill for lunch. I’m meeting a friend and this seemed like a good place
Tuesday: Tribeca Grill for dinner. My parents and I needed to find a solid neighborhood place for dinner and I figured that Tribeca Grill was a good choice. I had Mai House on the schedule but cancelled after having several people tell me that it was a disappointment.
Wednesday: Perry Street for Dinner. Perry Street, like The Modern was one of a few really good restaurants to offer dinner. We made a reservation for four and are very happy about it.
Thursday: Lupa for lunch. I really like Lupa and wanted to eat lunch there.
That’s the full schedule, wish me luck!
