The private chess lesson that I was supposed to teach tonight was cancelled, so I had a chance to cook something I had been thinking about for a few days—porcini crusted chicken. I had to throw in some veggies too so I added sautéed kale and butter beans.
The meal looked like this:
After looking at the picture I've decided that I probably need to add another color to the plate to make the dish look nicer. Maybe roasted tomatoes?
The chicken was very tasty and the kale was decent too but the butter beans were a bit too pasty. Something I’ll have to work on…
It looks like the main man at the times agrees with me on Gordon Ramsay. After our meal my friend Josh predicted a two and two—two NY Times Stars and Two from Michelin, his reasoning being that Michelin seems to value the ‘experience’ of being catered to almost as much as the food.
On that note, a short essay on dining out by some chefs/bloggers whose site I really enjoy.
Interesting essay by Michael Pollan the author of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” on food, nutrition, diet and marketing.
For all my friends out there who love the burgers/cheap beer deals at Corner Bistro, this might be a place to check out. And it has tacos.
There’s a big hullabaloo on all of the internet food blogs being made about this site. I’m not sure yet what my feelings are but I plan on thinking about it and figuring some out.
See what Mike Ditka thinks about wine! My favorite line is "It's one of these deals where when you order it, you don't expect the worst and you don't expect the best, but it turns out to be a hell of a lot better than you expected." Ahhh Mike Ditka. (Note: Subscription to the site may be required.)
Finally, for those who don’t mind drinking red wine in the middle of the afternoon this should be a really fun event. I think I’m getting a group of friends together, tasting the free wine, maybe buying something I can afford, then eating soufflé au fromage back at my place. We’ll see how the day turns out.

Don't expect more than 1 star from Michelin for Ramsay in NYC. He may get 1 star because Michelin caters to certain chefs (Jean Georges, Boulud, Ducasse in particular). And Ramsay is in that category.
Yeah, we thought he might get two because the Michelin people might be into the gussied up dining experience they provide; even if the food is uninspiring.
