Looking at food as a young New Yorker

Slow Week

After eating those weird scallops on Sunday night, I knew it would be a slow week for me in terms of food (even the dining section on Wednesday was boring). I have been working a lot this week and haven’t really had an opportunity to cook anything or eat at an interesting restaurant all week long. I have mostly been living off of Indian leftovers, sushi, kimchee and rice, and my leftover Momofuku original ssam that I ordered to go at Momofuku on Saturday night(it travels surprisingly well.) Luckily I wasn’t shut out for the week as I was able to squeeze in a delicious, juicy, bacon cheeseburger at The Corner Bistro last night.

I think I learned this week that when you love food and don’t work in the food or hospitality industry, it can be surprisingly difficult to find time to enjoy eating. I have been stuck planning my foodie spring break here in New York that so far consists of dinner at The Little Owl and Eleven Madison Park, and a lunch a L’Impero as well as a large wine tasting at Chambers Street Wines and a Lopez De Heredia tasting at Acker and Merrill.

If only I had more time…

Oh and by the way, the $1000 ‘pizza’ being held by ‘bread is free, water is free’ Nino from the commercials is a rip off. Even the look on his face says, “I’m stealing your money and giving you crap.” It’s fine to serve expensive ingredients but combining a bunch of expensive ingredients and thinking they’ll taste good because they’re expensive is not what cooking is about. I’m also not sure how that thing comes anywhere close to the definition of pizza. I’m strangely passionate about this. That is all.
